Kiss My Hand

We might have stated this before but Laura is going through separation issues from Mom and Dad. This mostly occurs when we drop her off at daycare.

With the new school year upon us, we tried something new to help the transition from staying at home during the summer with Mom to daycare at Carla's. It is called, THE KISSING HAND.

The Book
We read the book The Kissing Hand to Laura often. After reading, we ask her what the story means to her. The book is about a young raccoon who is anxious about leaving his mother, his toys, and his friends on the first day of school. When Chester is reluctant to go to kindergarten for the first time, his mother teaches him a secret way to carry her love with him.

What is it?
When we drop off Laura at daycare, we kiss the palm of her hand so that at any point throughout the day, when she gets sad about mom and dad not being there, she can press her palm to her cheek and receive a kiss from us.

Does it work?
The jury is still out. Laura still gets quite emotional when we drop her off in the morning but she claims that she presses her hand to her cheek during the day. So, I am not sure if is actually working or not but I love the concept.

Lots of kids really like that story... I can just see Laura putting her hand to her cheek when she is missing you and home. Maybe she puts her hand to Ryan's cheek too?!
