Can You Feel the Love Tonight?

That is totally the kind of cheesy blog post title that Mike would use...but last night we got to see Laura really "feel the love" for her brother for the first time. Laura has visited Ryan almost every day since he was born. She loves him, and talks about "her" baby, but really didn't like actually seeing him in the NICU. His masks (CPAP and bili lights) made her nervous and after looking at him for a minute or two, she'd ask to leave. Ryan looks much less intimidating now that he only has a small set of clear tubes by his nose for oxygen. He's out of the big bed with all the equipment and in a regular bassinet.

When we brought Laura in last night, she walked right up to the bassinet and peeked in and started talking to him. We got to give Ryan a sponge bath, and Laura stood on a chair to help. She did a great job being gentle with him and was quite amused by all his little movements and sounds. After the bath, the nurse brought in some jammies and let Laura choose an outfit for Ryan (she picked electric guitar pj's that say "Little Rocker"). After I fed Ryan, he was ready to be held, so Laura positioned herself on Mike's lap with a pillow. She just beamed when the nurse put Ryan on her lap. It's hard to describe - but just look at the pictures, and you can see the love on her face. It made me really happy to see her with him like that.
