Laura Writes Her Name

L.A.U.R.A.

I know, I know, I'm teetering on becoming 'that' parent. You know, the one that gets ridiculously obnoxious with their child's development and achievements. For that, I am sorry. Then again, it's really hard to hide pride and excitement.

From time to time, Laura gets the urge to draw a picture of a person (Mom, Dad, Grandma, etc.). And in that picture, she feels it's necessary to sign her name (which has been an 'L' for a long time but now it's an 'LA').

We've encouraged (not pressure) her to try other letters in her name but she has refused because the 'R' is too hard and her version of the 'U' looks too much like a 'V.' Well, all of that has changed today.

Laura wrote all the letters in her name on an etch-a-sketch at daycare. Great work, Peanut!

UPDATE
After I wrote this I need to come clean about something. Let me stress that what I did was purely unintentional.

Last night Laura was struggling to write an A, R, and U. She was frustrated. I told her that she was so close and that the 'A' looked pretty good. She was so disappointed the way it looked she put away the crayon/paper. Again, I said that it looked good but she refused to accept my compliment.

As I walked away, I may have said under my breath "Well, when you can write your whole name, we will do something really special." Little did I know she heard that.

Fast forward to this afternoon. I get a call from Mom informing me that the motivation behind Laura writing her name was my "we will do something really special" motivational speech. And now she wanted to know what was the reward? Not the kind of motivation I was looking to do.

Now I have to live up to my promise. Tonight is a movie night (Aladdin) with popcorn.

All the letters are there!
