Well, the big day has come and gone. Our kids have had more of a "Halloween Week," with grandparents stopping by on Sunday and Monday evening with treats and goodies. On Wednesday the kids brought their costumes to daycare and played fun games, etc. and even had mummy hot dogs for lunch! Laura came home with plenty of loot from Carla and her buddies. As you can see, Ryan was a duck and Laura went as Rapunzel.

Last night Laura could hardly wait to start trick-or-treating. The Rapunzel dress was donned atop some extra layers for warmth, the braid was attached, tiara (or as Laura would say, ti-rar-ah) secured, and the glow wand from Allison activated! Laura and Mike handed out treats to the early trick-or-treaters while I put our little pumpkin to bed, and once Ryan was out I took over so they could hit the streets.
About 15 minutes later, Mike returned carrying a sobbing Laura. She had encountered an older boy in a gorilla suit/mask combo at the neighbor's house, and was totally petrified. DONE. She could not be convinced to resume trick-or-treating. We took inventory of her loot so far, and she declared that she had "enough candy" and didn't need to go out to get any more. Quite a change from last year when she went four blocks and we were gone for an hour! She didn't even want to help answer the door and pass out candy for fear there would be more "scary costumes."
Laura is already thinking ahead. Today she says, "Mom, what costume am I going to have next year?" Front-runners already being discussed include a flower and Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty).
