Hospital Tour

We are currently in Week 31.

Tonight was our third (of six) baby class session. Here is a recap of the highlights.

  1. We had a tour of the hospital for part of our class last night. I liked the hospital, the aesthetics and atmosphere were warm and comforting.
  2. The postpartum room is really small and compact. Maybe 2/3's the size of that at Queen of Peace Hospital in NP. (I forgot how small the room is - my only visit was last Spring when we saw Meghan and Chris.) Families might have to come in shifts???
  3. Watched a C-section video. Couldn't bear to watch the video. Felt queasy. Instead, I concentrated on slowly sipping Mt. Dew and reading a book. Never fear, when the time comes, I will pull through. Otherwise, I will be replaced by Grandma Barb.
  4. Here is the most amazing news of all. One of the couples in our class had their baby. They were only two weeks ahead of us! Yes, they had a baby boy at 33 weeks. Even though our due date is two months away, this news is a sobering reminder he or she can come at ANY time! Are we fully prepared? No we are not!
  5. Kegel exercises were practiced by all...even the dads. We heard moms should practice this technique several times a day with each one lasting 20-25 seconds.

Snack review session 3: cheese popcorn, assorted Little Debbie treats, fruit, cheese and crackers = A+
Perhaps I was too hasty in awarding such high marks for snacks early on...last class was definitely not B quality in comparison to these snacks. I LOVE cheesy popcorn and the Little Debbies were delicious (Yes mom, there were 2 in the package and I ate them BOTH!!! A benefit of being an adult.). I bypassed fruit but have been eating some at home so no worries.

On a side note, Mom has not been feeling well this week (sniffles, groggy, sore throat, aches and pains.) I am most concerned about her not being able to sleep at night. If she can't sleep...I can't sleep. Get well Mom!
