Joint entry...commentary by Baby B's Mom in blue.
DISCLAIMER: This entry is "all in fun," but clearly we have different viewpoints of this momentous occasion!!!
July 20th, 2008 - The morning of the pregnancy test
Believe it or not, mom and dad made a pact the night before the TEST. We both agreed to look at the test results at the same time. Anyone getting the feeling that it didn't happen this way? Anyone getting the feeling someone is a little bitter about this?!?! I completely agree that we had agreed to look at the test results at the same time.
Here is what happened...
We set our alarm for 5:30am. Fast forward...it is now 5:30am. Mind you, I sleep like a bear and never react to an alarm in its first two minutes of going off. Try the first 40 minutes of an alarm going off. Mom woke up and quietly walked into the bathroom - funny, without saying a word to me. I told him I was going in to take the test and made a reasonable effort to wake him up. Plus, I had to go! FYI, the reason the whole scenario is going down this early is because you are supposed to take the test on your first trip to the bathroom in the a.m. Well, with one-eye open, I realized I was about to be hornswoggled from this experience. Sneaky woman. Mmmhmm. Lazy sleeper. Good thing he roused himself from bed!!!
As mom entered the bathroom, I jumped out of bed, walked to the bathroom door and waited quietly. As I recall, by this point, I was giving him a play-by-play. I distinctly recall that the directions on the test were a little perplexing and I wasn't sure which way to hold the stick, which I was explaining to him. I hear a flush. It was now the moment of truth. I was eagerly awaiting for that door to open so we could look at what our future holds...TOGETHER.
Yes, mom did open the door but she had a surprise. ALL RIGHT. In my defense, the directions SAID it would take approximately one minute before results would show in the window. My plan was to open the door and watch the window together. Too bad that two pink lines showed up IMMEDIATELY - like before I could even get off the toilet. Mom said, "The test is positive, we are having a baby." I am hoping I said something more profound than this!? I thought I let Dad at least look at the stick to see for himself. I was in complete shock. She knew before me. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry... Mom claims the results displayed before she even opened the door. "Malarkey!" After 10 seconds of feeling betrayed and angry (I wasn't really angry, I'm having a hard time coming up with the right word), happiness and joy overwhelmed my emotions.
Needless to say, it was still 5:30am, on a Saturday, and I was tired. So, we went back to sleep. Aha! Can you see where his true priorities lie? I know all of you who already have kids are laughing at us because you know we are facing many 5:30 wake-up calls on Saturday mornings of the future. I believe we did talk a little about our excitement and new "secret" before we went back to sleep, and woke up a couple of hours later to continue thinking and talking about this big news.
