My First Father's DayIt was a weekend of emotional ups and downs. As Mom wrote in the previous post, with great sadness, we said 'goodbye' to a wonderful Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. Sandwiched in the middle of his passing and funeral was my first Father's Day.
Father's day started off with Laura and I snuggling in bed. Couldn't have asked for a better start! After half-hour of snuggling (or putting in the pacifier every 30 seconds), Laura and I went downstairs to a surprise breakfast. Dad had an omelet, toast, and hash browns on his plate and Laura drank milk straight from the tap. What a great way to start off the day, eh?!?
After the delicious breakfast, Mom surprised Dad with a bag of goodies. Inside were gifts (even though he asked for nothing). Golf balls, clothes, and a very thoughtful card. I don't know who was more happy that I had an updated wardrobe, Mom or me? Let it be known...I am excited to blast some of my new golf balls into the lake, ponds, and woods at Ruttger's on Bay Lake later this summer!
Following breakfast and presents, we continued the celebration at my parent's house. Grandpa and Grandma B, Uncle Scott, Auntie Lynn and Cousin Lillian were all in attendance. Oh! And there were additional guests. Auntie Lynn's nieces and nephews were there too (Charlie, Thomas, and Allison) because Lynn's sister was in the hospital. (Get well, Sara!) Five children under 5 years old. If that wasn't a form of birth control, I don't know what would be. Truthfully, the kids were on their best behavior and our time down there was as usual, except a little louder.
Normally, our next stop would have taken us to Grandpa and Grandma M's house but this year our journey was rerouted to Baraboo, WI. We did not go to celebrate Father's Day, but we did go to celebrate a Father, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa.
Here is a video of Laura laughing. In a matter of a week, she has gone from a little chuckle to a full-fledged laugh. Unfortunately, I didn't get to the camera on time as these are a couple of takes after she laughed really hard. The final clip is of Laura looking over Mom's shoulder. I added this because I smile every time Laura's "peanut head" peeks over someone's shoulder. I think she is so cute when she does that.

Thanks for sharing the details of your first Father's Day, Mike.
It is good to have a special day to honor the many dads we know and love.
I am glad that you are now among them! Laura is a lucky little girl.
Love,
Barb
